cleveland browns logoWelcome to the best site for the 2009 Cleveland Browns Season Preview. The Browns front office made the choice to finally get rid of head coach Romeo Crennel who did not get his players to play at the level they did in 2007 when the team looked like they were on the rebound. The fans are not happy with the head coaching job being changed every couple years. It will even take them a while to warm up to new head coach Eric Mangini, he was let go of by the Jets this offseason and the browns like his discipline. Since he has took over the team he decided to pick up quite a few new players that should fit his system nicely. The Browns traded their starting tight end away, Kellen Winslow to the Buccaneers, cause of constant off the field problems and trashing of team. The 2009 Cleveland Browns quarterback starting job is till open between Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson, looks like the younger of the two might have the advantage. Donte' Stallworth has not been the player he once showed he can be and on top of that is doing jail time and should see a bid suspension when he Joshua Cribbs showed he can return kicks with some of the best of them, but he wants a bigger role on the offense and if he can't get that here wants to be traded or released.

2009 Cleveland Browns Free Agency And Trades

2009 Cleveland Browns NFL DraftThe first pick of the 2009 Cleveland Browns NFL Draft was center Alex Mack who had an outstanding senior year at the University of California, during workouts showed everyone their are no holes in his game. Each year in college he got bigger and stronger, they say he has been the leader of all the lines he has played on. The next two picks were taken to help the receivers as soon as possible, they went out and got Brian Robiskie who is known for great hands and being a possession receiver which he was at Ohio State. The Browns also think they can get Mohamed Massaquoi to hit the weights and get a lot more aggressive. The next four picks are all on the defensive side of the ball which they also need help with.

2009 Cleveland Browns Quarterbacksbrady quinn cleveland browns quarterbackCrennel had named Brady Quinn the 2009 Cleveland Browns Quarterbacks starter, but then Crennel was fired and the job was an open battle. Mangini did not see either of the quarterbacks Derek Anderson or Quinn stand out, so we will see during training camp and preseason. I am sure the fans would love to see one guy stand out and take the job rather than going between the two all season long. Anderson had an excellent 2007 season and can still throw the long ball. His problem is he is not a touch passer for the little passes that count. Quinn should be the future quarterback seeing how they went out and drafted him two years ago. Third string spot should be Brett Ratliff who has yet to throw a ball in a regular season game.

2009 Cleveland Browns Running Backs

Bet Ed Sportsbook For NFL Betting

The 2009 Cleveland Browns Running Backs can come across strong this year if each player works together. The Browns will be using Jamal Lewis again this year even though he had a declining year compares to the past couple of years. The coaching staff believes that the offensive line did not help out Lewis in the running attack at all last season. Jamal is only 30 and should make a real decent season if he can get the help around him. Jerome Harrison should be able to give Lewis a rest and get some playing time through out the year. I know the quarterbacks will miss Jason Wright who was not known for his running, but he sure knows how to stop a blitzer and keep the quarterback up right. The Browns went out and drafted James Davis who will be a project back that probably will not see much of the field this year.

2009 Cleveland Browns Wide Receivers braylon edwards cleveland browns wide reciverThree guys who have helped catch balls for the Browns will not be in Browns uniforms this season, Kellen Winslow got traded to the Buccaneers, Stallworth has jail and most likely major suspension, and Joe Jurevicius has retired and is suing the Browns for ending his career with staph infection. The 2009 Cleveland Browns Wide Recievers welcome Robert Royal, who will help fill the void at the tight end opening and is looking like the starter with a little challenge from Steve Haiden. Braylon Edwards had a rough year starting with a cut on his foot before the season even began. His numbers took a big hit and his hands were not as dependable as 2007. This is a contract year so he needs to show the Browns and the rest of the teams he still is a big time scoring threat. Looks like Brian Robiskie will get an early starting role and should be there for all the possession passes to help set up the long ball. You will probably see two free agents pick ups may see some decent playing time, David Patten and Mike Furrey.

2009 Cleveland Browns Offensive LineTwo years ago this line was dominate but last year they had a big brain fart and forgot most of what made the 2007 season look so much like they were going to be able to challenge the Steelers for a division title. The 2009 Cleveland Browns Offensive Line is looking much better this season. They try to address some of the problem by drafting center Alex Mack to anchor that offensive line that needs to be much improved. The right tackle spot will be a battle between Ryan Tucker, who only played one game last year due to injury, or free agent John St. Clair. The left tackle job is locked in by Joe Thomas who has been a bright spot on the line. The guards who will be starting should be Floyd Womack and Eric Steinbach.

2009 Cleveland Browns Defensive LineMangini picked up a player he had for the Jets, Kenyon Coleman, he was lead the line in tackles last year. He will be the 2009 Cleveland Browns Defensive Line starting end for the Browns this season, Corey Williams had an average year and should benefit from Coleman playing opposite of him this season. The nose tackle will be Shaun Rogers who had a big year and is the leader of the defensive line. He has great size and strength. They have some depth on the line in two defensive ends C.J. Mosley and Robaire Smith. Nose tackle Ahtyba Rubin will give Shaun Rogers a break.

2009 Cleveland Browns LinebackersThis season, Andra Davis will be replaced with Eric Barton as one of the 2009 Cleveland Browns Linebackers, who came over after playing the past five years with the Jets. Barton will start at inside linebacker along side D'Qwell Jackson,  they should make a great duo on the outside. Where as for the outside of the linebacking core should be Alex Hall and Kameron Wimbley should be able to hold down the pressure towards the quarterback. David Bowens should provide support off the bench and David Veikune along with Beau Bell should be able to fill in and help the defense.

2009 Cleveland Browns SecondaryThere is much hope for the 2009 Cleveland Browns Secondary this season. The cornerbacks are both back and can hopefully put last season behind them, cause both of them let way to many big plays go right over them. Eric Wright and Brandon McDonald should have a new lease on the cornerback position if they want to keep their starting spot all year. They sign to free agent corners to help the depth of the secondary in Hank Poteat and Corey Ivy who may be needed alot if the starters have bad start to the season. Abram Elam is another guy who came over from the Jets when Mangini made the move. He should take over for Sean Jones who has left the team. Elam will start at safety along with Brodney Pool who has the ability to shine if the rest of the defense improves to.
