Bears Big Favorites Over Browns

NFL News - October 27th, 2009 - Written by John

bearsThe Chicago Bears had their brains beat in, 45-10, last week by the Cincinnati Bengals, but are double-digit favorites on BetUS this week.

It's always nice to play the Cleveland Browns.

According to BetUS sportsbook, the Bears are surrendering 13 1/2 to the Browns, who are coming off an equally awful game against the Packers. The over/under for the game is 40. It is a relatively high over, considering the fact that both teams are in the bottom-10 in the NFL in terms of scoring. The Browns are averaging just over six points in their last three games (one of them a win) and the Bears haven't scored more than 25 the entire 2009 NFL Season.

Jay Cutler has only heard the "bust" word more after struggling in the last two games, both losses. Between the games, he has thrown for 521 yards, but has five interceptions. He has 10 picks overall, which is second-worst of all starting quarterbacks. Despite signing a multi-year extension with the team last week, he has done little to hide the fact that he is the 21st-rated passer in the NFL with only one win against a team with a winning record. The loss against Cincinnati, the Chicago Sun-Times' columnist Neil Hayes argued, was the worst in franchise history, partially because of the losing margin, partially because former running back Cedric Benson claimed vengence with 194 yards and a touchdown.

"This was something nobody had ever seen before," he wrote in Monday's column. "Making it like Secretariat's 31-length victory in the 1973 Belmont Stakes and Nadia Comaneci's perfect 10. Replace goose bumps with the gag reflex, and it was like witnessing Nolan Ryan's seventh no-hitter or Roger Bannister's sub-four-minute mile.

"It was an athletic contest that made the 64,900 in attendance want to keep their ticket stubs as souvenirs because the Bears turned in what might've been the worst performance in franchise history."

Browns fans have taken their losses a little better. After all, they should be used to the ineptitude. Cleveland's lone win came in a 6-3 snoozer against Buffalo and, despite being competitive in recent weeks, fell back to their sloppy ways last sunday. Derek Anderson completed his first five passes of the game, but finished with only 99 yards. Eight different receivers had at least one catch, but none of them had more than 30 yards.

Devin Hester leads the Bears with 373 yards and three touchdowns.

For the Browns, it's Mohamed Massaquoi with 300.
