2009 Denver Broncos NFL DraftDue to the trade involving Jay Cutler the Broncos entered the 2009 Denver Broncos NFL Draft with two first round draft picks, the 12th and 18th overall picks.  With the 12th selection in the 2009 NFL draft, the Broncos selected Knowshon Moreno RB from Georgia University.  Moreno hopes to bring back the quick strike running attack, Broncos fans have gotten used to over the past ten years.  With the 18th overall selection, the Broncos added to the defense, taking LB Robert Ayers from Tennessee college.  Ayers is known for his pass rushing capabilities, a much needed position for a defense that finished 30th in points against and 29th in total yards allowed last year.  Broncos also gained three picks in the 2nd round, taking CB Alphonso Smith from Wake Forest with the 37th overall selection and, continued the trend, selecting CB Darcel McBath from Texas Tech at the 48th overall pick.  With the last pick in the 2nd round the Broncos went offense, adding TE Richard Quinn from North Carolina with the 64th pick.  The Broncos didn't get another pick till the 4th round 114th pick overall, selecting David Bruton 6 foot big hitting FS from Notre Dame.  With the 132nd pick the broncos added big man Seth Olsen OG from Iowa to help secure the offensive line.  In the 5th round the Broncos selected Kenny Mckinely speedy Wide Receiver from South Carolina at the 141st pick overall.  With the first selection in the 6th round The Broncos chose QB Tom Brandstater out of Fresno State, to back up Kyle Orton and Chris Simms under center.  To close out the Broncos 2009 draft class, Denver selected Blake Schlueter, center from TCU with the 225 pick overall.

Arrington will be utilized in Passing screens more often.  Kyle Orton's success as one of the 2009 Denver Broncos Quarterbacks will be determined in his abilities to not turn the ball over, sense the Broncos Defense is a work in progress.  Kyle Orton finished last year with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 15 games, a ratio that must improve for a successful 2009 campaign.  In succession behind Kyle Orton, is former Tampa Bay Starting quarterback Chris Simms who produced some success before rupturing his spleen during a game in 2006.  Third string quarterback is newly drafted Tom Bradstater from Fresno State, leaving the Denver Broncos without much experience behind an already inexperienced starting quarterback.

2009 Denver Broncos Running Backsknowshown moreno denver broncos running backThe running back core for the Denver Broncos, might be the loan bright spot in the offense.  As far as the 2009 Denver Broncos Running Backs go, first round draft pick Knowshon Moreno looks to take over at the starting Running back position.  Free agent pick up J.J. Arrington could be the Goal line back the Denver Broncos need, after the loss of Peyton Hillis do to injuries.  Peyton Hills however averaged 5 yards a carry and entered the end zone 5 times in just 6 starts in 2008.  The speedy Correll Buckhalter provides an ability to reach the sidelines off quick screens, and should cause defenses trouble in isolation flat plays.  Lamont Jordan fits in well as a third option for the Broncos as he's played that roll before under Josh McDaniels, for the New England Patriots last year.  The running game of the Denver Broncos must have success if they want to open up the air attack.

2009 Denver Broncos Wide Receiversbrandon marshall denver broncos wide receiverLeading the pack for the Broncos at the wide receiver position is talented wide out Brandon Marshall.  Entering his 4th year, all with the Broncos, Marshall intends to improve his end zone production as he only scored 6 times in 15 games started in 2008. Marshall did, however, exceed 100 receptions on the season for the second straight year.  Last season's biggest find for the Broncos was 5 foot 10 inch wide out Eddie Royal, who produced wonderfully alongside Brandon Marshall.  Royal adds a presence in the middle of the Field, as he constantly finds openings in the secondary, illustrated by 91 receptions in his rookie season.  The off season brought in two new 2009 Broncos Wide Receivers fighting for a starting role on the team, former New England Patriot Jabar Gaffney and former San Francisco wide out Brandon Lloyd.  Gaffney is a 8 year Veteran and Lloyd a 7 year Veteran himself, both hope to find away onto the Field in 2009.  To round out the receiver core is free agent acquisition C.J Jones, wide receiver Chad Jackson, Brandon Stokley, and Nate Swift.  Head lighting the Tight end position and entering his 4th year with the Broncos is Tony Scheffler.  Scheffler numbers dropped a bit from 2007 to 2008, mainly do to injuries.  this year the pressure is on Scheffler as Kyle Orton will look to him often on 3rd downs.  Behind Scheffler is 8 season veterans Jeb Putzier and Daniel Graham as well as newly drafted rookie Richard Quinn from North Carolina.

2009 Denver Broncos Defensive Line

Bet Ed Sportsbook For NFL Betting

The 2009 Denver Broncos Defensive Line for the Denver Broncos should intimidate most offensive lines in the AFC west. Starting with defensive Tackles Marcus Thomas and Ronald Fields.  They are backed up by third year guys Matthias Askew and Nic Clemons.  At Left end this year is 3rd season man Tim Crowder from Texas, and at right end is Robert Ayers rookie first round draft pick from Tennessee who is moving from line Backer to defensive end for the struggling broncos defense.  Robert Ayers is backed up by usual starter Darrell Reid.  If the broncos intend to make a push for the playoffs it all starts in the defensive trenches.

2009 Denver Broncos LinebackersWith a 4-3 defensive front the broncos need big time production from their line backer core.  Led by 2009 Broncos Linebackers D.J Williams and Andre Davis, the Broncos need to pursue a pass rush with more intensity.  Outside linebackers Boss Bailey and Elvis Dumervil poses a side line to side line speed that should work well in pursuing AFC West star running backs Ladainian Tomlinson from the Chargers and, Larry Johnson from the Chiefs.  6 foot 5 outside linebacker Louis green should be the main sub off the bench, a plus for the Broncos, as they rely heavily on their linebackers ability to pursue the football.

2009 Denver Broncos Secondarybrian dawkinsThe defensive secondary belongs to 11 year veteran Champ Bailey, who came off a terrible 2008 campaign, mainly due to injuries.  Bailey intercepted only one ball last year in 9 starts a saver drop off from his normal production in the past.  this year his hands are full again as the Broncos plan on starting at least one of the two CB taken in the second round of this years draft.  Andre Goodman signed off waivers from the Dolphins so he should start along the other side of the Field from Bailey, however 37th overall pick rookie Alphonso Smith should start to see more of the field as the season progress on.  The big time addition to the defense this year is SS Brian Dawkins from the Philadelphia Eagles.  Dawkins looks to make an immediate impact, as a key figure in the 2009 Broncos Secondary.
