2009 AFC West Schedule Preview

afc conference logoThe AFC West did just about bad as the NFC West last year but our 2009 AFC West Schedule Preview is showing promis for the upcoming season. The division leading San Diego Chargers finished with an average record of 8-8 at the end of the 2008 season.  The Denver Broncos finished the year second in the division but, matched the Chargers with the same record at 8-8.  The Oakland Raiders fought through another embarrassing season in 2008, finishing the year off with a record of 5-11.  The Raiders fans hope this is the year, changes begin to be made in Oakland.  By far the worst team in the AFC West was the Kansas City Chiefs,  The Chiefs ended the 2008 season managing to win only 2 games.  However the Chiefs made a big step in the right direction by hiring new head coach Todd Haley.

2009 San Diego Chargers AFC West Schedule Previewchargers The Chargers have been on the decline since the end of the 2006 year where they accomplished 14 wins. In 2007, that went down to winning just 11 games, and in 2008 the win total dropped again, totaling only 8 wins. If the trend continues chances are the Chargers will not make the 2009 NFL Playoffs. Phillip Rivers and LaDainian Tomlinson must pull this team together, on offense. With a solid offensive attack, the San Diego defense will have more time to rest, and prepare for the next series. There is no doubt the addition of Shawn Merriman will help bolster the defense, and if Cromartie can get back to his 2007 season form, the Chargers could be a lethal team, one that could dominate their 2009 AFC West Schedule.

2009 Denver Broncos AFC West Schedule PreviewbroncosThe Broncos traded away their best player in Jay Cutler during the off season after he and new head coach Josh McDaniels had strategical differences.  Broncos fans are hoping coach Mcdaniels knows what the hell he is doing, as Cutler was coveted by most if not all bronco fans.  The cutler trade put the wheels in motion for other player such as wide out Brandon Marshall to begin demanding trades of their own.  This topic is one Josh McDaniels and the rest of the Broncos team must avoid to have any success in the 2009 NFL Season.  The broncos slump down under new head coach Josh McDaniels going 6-10.

2009 Oakland Raiders AFC West Schedule PreviewraidersThe Raiders have proven to be one of, if not the worst teams, in all of football.  The Raiders have not won more than 5 Games in any season sense the start of the 2004 season.  Raiders executives as well as Raider fans, hope first round draft pick from a few years ago quarterback JaMarcus Russell, can return to the play he had during his years with the LSU tigers.  Last years first round draft pick Darren McFadden will be the feature back for the Raiders this year and, the combined play of McFadden and Russell just might prove to be enough in such a weak division as the AFC West.  The Raiders finish with a record of 5-11.

2009 Kansas City Chiefs AFC West Schedule PreviewThe 2009 Kansas City Chiefs Made lots of changes all in the right direction. First it was the hiring of new head coach Todd Haley, formally the offensive coordinator of the NFC champion Arizona Cardinals.  Than it was a big trade with the Patriots in which the Chiefs got quarterback Matt Cassel and Linebacker Mike Vrabel from the New England. Third year wide receiver Dwayne Bowe is the happiest to see Cassel arrive to the team, as he knows his big play ability will increase with Cassel's ability to throw the long ball. Look for RB Larry Johnson to produce more and more, as the passing game of the chiefs begins to make defenders drop back in coverage.  The Chiefs improve but finish at 6-10.
