Buffalo Bills Steal Brohm From Green Bay Packers

NFL News - November 19th, 2009 - Written by John

brian brohmOnly a day has passed since the Buffalo Bills cut ties with head coach Dick Jauron and already two moves have been made at quarterback appearing on the Buffalo Bills Transactions Report.

With management in flux, the Bills have decided to bring in second-year quarterback Brian Brohm to serve alongside Ryan Fitzpatrick and Trent Edwards.

Brohm was snagged from the Green Bay Packers, who had been using him on their practice squad, on Wednesday. The Packers tried to keep him, the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel reported, by matching Buffalo's offer. But the sophomore chose to change teams for a better chance at a starting gig.

He agreed on a two-year deal with Buffalo just hours after it was announced that Fitzpatrick would be the new starter this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jauron was a big proponent of Edwards during his three years, and the two moves serve as evidence that others in the organization were likely prodding him to make changes.

Brohm was projected to be a first-round pick out of Louisville after completing the best quarterbacking tenure in school history. But he was injured during his senior year, and when other options came around, slid far down into the depths of the second round. He wasn't able to make much movement with the organization with Aaron Rodgers at the helm, and was cut earlier at the beginning of the season, then re-signed in an attempt to creatively manage his pay.

The paper also reports that Brohm will be reunited with former teammate Eric Wood, who was a center at Louisville. Wood delivered all of Brohm's snaps while in school, and was drafted in the first round last year by the Bills.

It is unlikely that the Brian Brohm transaction will affect the NFL Week 11 Betting Odds.
