New Orleans Saints Have Another Light Week Vs. Tampa Bay Bucs

NFL News - November 17th, 2009 - Written by John

saintsThe New Orleans Saints are one of the hottest picks this week, coming off a surprising nail-biter against the St. Louis Rams. In their quest to become the first double-digit winner in the NFL, they get another gimme putt this weekend when they travel to Tampa Bay to face the one-win Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Although the lines are varying, BetUS has the Saints as 11-point favorites, one of five other double-digit favorites on the day, with a total of 50 1/2. Despite the high number, and a hiccup last week, the Saints are still 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight road games, and are 11-4-1 ATS overall recently.

But the Bucs have seemingly transformed to relevance since inserting rookie quarterback Josh Freeman into the lineup. After becoming the last winless team in the league, Freeman guided the team to it's first win of the year two weeks ago against the Green Bay Packers, then nearly recovered a 10-point deficit against Miami last Sunday.

For the year, Freeman has 417 yards in two games with four touchdowns and two picks.

The bad news is he can't play defense and the ones who do haven't been particularly thrilling. Raheem Morris has the league's second-worst rushing defense, and it is in the middle of the pack against the pass.

That's good news for Drew Brees. Guiding one of the most prolific offenses in NFL history, Brees has thrown for over 250 yards six times this season and is the second-rated passer in the league. For the year, he has 2,559 and needs to average just over 200 yards in his final seven games to reach 4,000.

Reggie Bush has seen a rebirth to his career now that he is finally healthy. He is tied for most points on the team among position players and has 484 yards from scrimmage. Marques Colston leads the team with 613 yards receiving.

The road team in this series is 9-3 ATS over the last 12 meetings, although Tampa Bay has won three of the last four games SU.
