Jets' Rhodes Next Player To Sound Off Against Patriots

NFL News - September 17th, 2009 - Written by Scott

kerry rhodesNew York Jets' fans can only hope that their team is practicing for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots as much as they are talking about it.  Jets' players, and even head coach Rex Ryan, have had alot to say regarding the Patriots and their game on Sunday. Ryan chimed in Wednesday on the off-field antics as he left a phone message to all Jets fans to make sure they were at the game and were loud, wanting the crowd to be their 12th or 13th player on defense to disrupt Patriot quarterback Tom Brady.  Ryan began the message by saying this:

Hey, this is Rex Ryan, the head coach of the New York Jets. I just wanted to let you know how much we need you this week. You know, I've already admitted that, hey, the Patriots have a better head coach and they've got a better quarterback than us. But we're going to see who's got a better team."

Also, the defense must have taken a little from Ryan's assertiveness and as they have sounded off as well.  Earlier in the week, defensive tackle Kris Jenkins labeled this game as the Jets' "Super Bowl" of all things.  Sure, it is a huge game, but a "Super Bowl."

Next in line to join the chorus of comments was free safety Kerry Rhodes.  He said that he wants to "embarrass" the Patriots on Sunday.  According to the New York Daily News, he issued this statement:

"You go out from the first quarter on, from the first play on, and try to embarrass them," Rhodes said. "Not just go out there and try to win, try to embarrass them. Try to make them feel bad when they leave here. We don't want to just beat them. We want to send a message to them, 'We're not backing down from you and we expect to win this game, and it's not going to be luck, it's not going to be a mistake.' "

He then elected to sound off against the Patriots' quarterback assuring that they will rattle him and get into his head.

"Any quarterback can be rattled," Rhodes said, according to the daily news. "He's one of the best, don't get me wrong. That's evident. Any quarterback, Peyton Manning, even if you get in his face, if you rattle the quarterback, you get pressure on the quarterback, any quarterback it is, he's not going to be the same. Nobody. That's not to say he's not going to come back and make a play after."

Jets fans can only hope that they will make statements on the field, not just off of it.  Under Belichick, the Patriots are 13-6 against the Patriots. Both teams are coming in winning their season openers.  All of the pregame talking should make for an interesting game on Sunday.
