Cowboys' Williams May Be Out Another Week

NFL News - October 24th, 2009 - Written by John

cowboysWith the recent emergence of wideout Miles Austin, and the return of well-paid Roy Williams, somebody had to be the odd-man out. That somebody was Patrick Crayton, who lost starting spot in the offense and slid down to the no. 3 option. Problem was, Crayton was never directly told about the switch and was not happy about it.

"I would have loved it (if a coach directly informed me of the move)," Crayton said. "It would have been real stand-up. That's not what happened. Oh, well."

Crayton went on to say he felt as if he were left out in the dark, but isn't bitter about losing his starting role.

All of that might not matter, however. With kickoff against the Atlanta Falcons just a day away, head coach Wade Phillips expressed his concerns that Williams isn't completely healthy from his rib injury suffered against the Broncos in Week Four. Williams said he had never been hit as hard as he was while stretching out for an errant pass, and apparently is still feeling it.

"The guy I'm worried about is Roy Williams," Phillips said Friday. "He has practiced but he is in pain sometimes. He told me he wants to play and feels like he can play and he has practiced every day and hasn't missed a snap. I feel like he can play, but he's the only guy I'm worried about playing in this ball game who's been injured."

Willliams only has 11 catches for 214 yards and a lone score in the season-opener. His size will be missed but he is by far Dallas' under-achiever of the year so far. He is earning $9 million this year but hasn't been the deep threat they hoped he would turn into. Instead, Austin became that guy two weeks ago when he torched the Kansas City Chiefs' secondary for 250 yards on two long touchdown receptions. If it's at all questionable, Dallas probably won't be remissed to sit Williams out another week.

At BetUS Sportsbook, the Dallas Cowboys are four-point favorites over the Atlanta Falcons, according to NFL Betting Odds. Several online sportsbooks are taking bets on the Sunday afternoon game.
