Lawrence Taylor Arrested For Leaving Accident

NFL News - November 9th, 2009 - Written by John

lawrenceFormer New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor can be seen with a smirk, eyes slightly bloodshot on Dade County's Sunday inmate photo log.

The 50-year old Hall of Famer was arrested Sunday night for leaving the scene of an accident early in the evening. The report came out in Miami's Sun Sentinel, indicating that he was involved in a car accident at 6:35 while driving north on the Palmetto Expressway. Police who responded found Taylor's car to be missing from the scene, and discovered it close by at an exit ramp. Taylor admitted he was in a crash, but told officers it was with a guard rail and not another vehicle.

He was brought to the slammer just as the Philadelphia Eagles-Dallas Cowboys game was reaching halftime, booked and released on $500 bond.

Taylor has been aiming to stay clean after a battle with cocaine and other drug addictions in the 90s. He was arrested in May of 1996 for trying to buy $100 worth of crack from undercover police officers. He was recently on "Dancing with the Stars" and is a spokesman for Nutrisystem.

In his 13-year career with the Giants, he had 132 1/2 sacks and was inducted into the football Hall of Fame in 1999.
