Monster Points Predicted for Saints Vs. Bills

NFL News - September 22nd, 2009 - Written by John

nfl logoSaints at Bills -- Seven quarters into the season, it appeared the Terrell Owens Project was a flagrant failure with it's only benefit coming in the area it was chided for. He sat out all but one quarter of the preseason, only caught four balls for his team for a whopping 55 yards and at that point the only entertainment was his post-game rants against teammates Trent Edwards and Leodis McKelvin. He looked more like an attention stunt than a game-changer and only reinforced the belief that if the Bills weren't going to win, they still wanted to be newsworthy.

Then Owens did something oddly familiar. On a go-route with five minutes remaining and the game waiting in the balance, T.O. hauled in his second catch of the day and toasted the Bucs' Aqib Talib for 43 yards to put the game out of reach. It took the Buccaneers from six points down to looking forward to next week, and the Bills' offense genuinely rose to a new level.

He didn't speak with reporters (and that's probably a good thing) after the game but certainly has to be satisfied with his growing role in the offense. Buffalo will likely need everything he has this weekend as they become the third team to try and stop the prolific New Orleans offense this weekend.

BetUS is not pegging this one to be a blowout, only giving the Bills 5 1/2 points at home. More so, it is presumed that it will be a shootout (which it likely will) with the highest over/under of the week. No match-up is has a higher line than this game's 53 1/2 after the Saints became the first team to score 40 points in each of their first two games. Drew Brees is already the lead-horse in the MVP race (yes, it's still early, I get it), throwing for nine touchdowns in the first two weeks.

The Saints offense is scoring at epic proportions thus far and is well on it's way to passing New England's season scoring mark of 577, set in '07. Seven different players have scored, including Mike Bell, who has been a welcomed surprise for the team. He was projected to be the no. 3 running back behind Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas. But with Thomas sidelined with an injury, and Bush proving ineffective as a feature back, Bell has rushed for 229 yards on 45 carries through two weeks.

If it seems like an oddity to see these teams play, its because, well, it is. The Bills have only played New Orleans once since 2002, losing, 19-7, in Week Four of the 2005 season. Neither Brees nor Edwards were on the team that year, and the leading rushers were Willis McGahee (Bills) and Deuce McAllister (Saints).
