Bears Favored In Seattle

NFL News - September 22nd, 2009 - Written by John

bearsBears at Seahawks -- It is, at times, difficult to assess a team after only two weeks, and no more is that apparent than when the Bears travel to Seattle this Sunday. Occasionally, you'll find a team like Minnesota or New Orleans that just dominates their early games and stand out as clear-cut favorites in almost every one following. Most of the time, though, there are bright spots followed by dim ones, and a team's identity is left up in the air until further notice.

Like in the case of Chicago when Jay Cutler was tagged for four interceptions against Green Bay in the season-opener, many of which were thrown in spots where there was no receiver at all. The very next week he comes out and plays virtually mistake-free and leads the Bears to a win over the Super Bowl champs.

Or how about Seattle's resume, pummeling the Rams with Week One's only shutout, 28-0. It seemed the Seahawks were back in contention for the division title with Matt Hasselbeck in the line-up and T.J. Houshmanzadeh to throw to. That was, of course, until Seattle laid an egg in Week Two, falling, 23-10, to the surprisingly good 49ers.

Hasselbeck was knocked out of that came with sore ribs and is doubtful for this week.

Both teams are struggling to find their identities, but Chicago gets the benefit of the doubt, likely because of potential and momentum from a big win. BetUS is giving them a two-point edge over Seattle. But Vegas isn't convinced either came will be able to pull away. Only the Denver-Oakland game has a lower over/under than Seattle-Chicago's 37.

If Hasselbeck can't go, it will be Seneca Wallace who gets the start. It won't be new ground for the five-year veteran. Wallace has been Hasselbeck's primary replacement since being drafted in 2005. He has started eight games last year, throwing 11 touchdowns with only three picks.
