Rams Inherit NFL's Longest Losing Streak, Fall To Packers

NFL News - September 27th, 2009 - Written by John

packersThe St. Louis Rams are probably the only team not in some way happy to see the Detroit Lions win their first game in almost three years. Snapping their 19-game losing streak meant that the Rams now inherit the title of longest skid at 13 games, now growing after losing to the Green Bay Packers, 36-17, on Sunday. The Rams have become the new symbol of futility, losing 30 of their last 35 games dating back to the start of the '07 season.

Despite the lopsided score, the game was actually relatively competitive for the majority of the day. Marc Bulger was knocked out of the game with an apparent shoulder injury and Kyle Boller took over the game with surprising efficiency.

After falling behind 16-0, he lead the Rams to a furious rebound, taking his team to a 23-14 deficit at the half. He hit Daniel Fells with a 16-yard strike to make it 16-7 and, after a intermittened touchdown by the Packers, followed up on the next drive with his second score. With two seconds left on the clock, the Rams elected to squeeze in one more play before tacking on a field goal. That proved to be unnecessary after Boller nailed Fells with another touchdown offering from 19-yards out. That deficit narrowed in the second half when Josh Brown boomed a 53-yard field goal to make it 23-17.

But it was only to make the Packers sweat. That's as close as the Rams would get after Rodgers took it in himself on Green Bay's first drive of the fourth quarter, then hit John Kuhn with touchdown pass to put it out of reach.

Rodgers finished the day with 269 yards and two touchdowns. His eight carries also netted 38 yards.
