Falcons Best Miami

NFL News - September 13th, 2009 - Written by John

falconsSo, maybe Atlanta has come a little further along in this whole rebuilding thing.

In a game that matched last season's Cinderella stories, Atlanta was the only one left standing at the ball.

Matt Ryan continued his terrific career in the NFL, leading the Falcons to a 19-7 win over the Dolphins Sunday afternoon . Ryan was the star on offense and was able to make up for the fact that Michael Turner on had 65 yards on the ground. He threw for two touchdowns and navigated the offense calmly throughout the entire game, taking the Falcons on scoring drives of less than five plays twice.

Four Falcons had at least four catches. The big strike came with 1:25 left in the third quarter, when newly acquired tight end Tony Gonzalez broke free and took Ryan's pass in for a 20-yard touchdown. That put the game out of reach and Miami only threatened late.

Miami only averaged six yards per pass and struggled to implement their wildcat offense. The key components to that strategy struggled gaining any ground. Five players had at least one rush, but nobody gained more than 14 yards on any one play, and Pat White and Ted Ginn, Jr. accounted for 35 yards total.

And if it weren't for a late score by Ricky Williams, the Dolphins would've been completely shut out. Williams was the recipient of a nine-yard toss from Chad Pennington with just over three minutes remaining in the game.
