Braylon Edwards Injured, Doesn't Participate in Training Camp

NFL News - July 29th, 2009 - Written by Mike

Braylon Edwards showed up to training camp for the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday, but did not take part of any activities due to being on the NFI list. The NFI stands for "non football injury/illness." The injury or illness is still unknown at this time. He was thought to report to camp on Monday, but it was not mandatory for any player other then the rookies. Braylon had a rough start to the year last season due to an injury to his foot before exhibition games. He never came to his potential from the year before where he looked to be a dominant receiver. New head coach, Eric Mangini, is not sure of what the injury is, but he is assuming it is a leg injury. It is suspected that Mangini is looking for Edwards to have a big season, one in which he will be more of a leader for the Browns receivers.

Braylon is the only developed receiver on the roster this year since Stallworth is going to be suspended. Two young guys are fighting for the number two and three spot for the receiving core. Rookies Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi are looking to have Edwards at camp to help mentor the young players. Eric Mangini is hoping to see Braylon on the playing field at camp Saturday, which is when camp begins for the veterans.

Braylon is playing this year in his last season under contract with the Browns, and would like the Browns to give him an extension for the future. If that doesn't happen, he is not scared of being traded to a new franchise. He had stated so in the off season. In 2007, he made the Pro Bowl. This is something he should aim to live up to once more. Braylon is expected to do big things this year, possibly making him one of the biggest names in the NFL by the end of this season.
