Kansas' Briscoe To Enter NFL Draft

NFL News - December 4th - Written by John

briscoeKansas' obliteration of it's 2009 team continued on Friday. Just days after head coach Mark Mangino agreed to step down, leaving several of his assistants vulnerable, top wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe announced that he will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft.

"I feel like I don't have anything left to prove in college football and my mom agrees," Briscoe said. "I want to be a consistent deep threat for an NFL team. I can get over corners and I'm a smart player."

Briscoe is the second preseason All-American receiver to enter the draft a year early, joining Oklahoma State's Dez Bryant, who was essentially handcuffed when the NCAA declared him inelgible until next October. Briscoe finished the 2009 College Football Season fifth in the NCAA with 1,337 yards and nine touchdowns, and is the school's career leader with 3,240 yards.

"I'm very excited, and I feel like I'm blessed," Briscoe said, "because I made it through three seasons injury-free. It's an honor to even be mentioned and know that I'm going to the NFL."

When asked if his decision was perpetuated with the departure of Mangino, Briscoe insisted it wasn't and that he made the choice before his coach was dispatched. Instead, the fact that quarterback Todd Reesing is done put him in a very precarious position of finishing his career at a school with little historical success, a brand-new coach and a brand-new quarterback.

"I took consideration in that," Briscoe said. "Todd, being my quarterback all three years I've been here, a remarkable guy. I don't really have that kind of chemistry with the incoming quarterbacks or quarterbacks that are already here, so that helped me in my decision."

After last week's season-finale against Missouri, Briscoe said he believed he would be taken in either the first of second round of the draft for the 2010 NFL Season. Listed at 6-foot-3, 205-pounds, he will likely be one of the first five receivers taken, but that will be decided as more underclassmen declare their intentions.
