Packers At 24 to 1 To Win Superbowl

NFL News - August 27th, 2009 - Written by Scott Mills

packers nflAfter last seasons disappointing 6-10 finish, Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy realized changes needed to be made. Back in January, he began the restructuring by firing five of his defensive coaches, including coordinator Bob Sanders. Based on the preseason so far, this was a great place to start. The Packers have dominated defensively in their first 2 preseason games. McCarthy hired Dom Capers as his new coordinator and with him came his smothering 3-4 defense. Drafting the best nose tackle in the draft B.J. Rahi in the first round also showed the Packers commitment to turning their dismal defense around. Defense, however, is only half of the equation. Steady play on offense must continue to reach the Super Bowl.

Aaron Rogers has been consistent since taking over the quarterback job due to Brett Favre's departure. In his debut year as the Packers starter, Rogers passed for 4,038 yards and 28 touchdowns. With a respectable quarterback rating of 93.8, Rogers should produce similar numbers in his 2009 campaign. Playing a large role in his success will depend on the arsenal of receivers he has to throw to. Both Greg Jennings and Donald Driver return and are prepared to make an impact. Jennings led all Packer receivers with 80 receptions, 1,292 yards receiving, and 9 touchdowns. There in not a drop off in production as Driver had very impressive numbers as well (74 receptions, 1,012 yards receiving, and 5 touchdowns). Offensively, the packers can in fact pound it on ground also. Ryan Grant returns from a very good season. He finished the season with 1,203 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns.

What the 2010 future holds for the Green Bay packers is about to unfold. If preseason is any indication, then this squad fairs well this coming season. They will have an interesting standing in the NFC North with the Minnesota Vikings and former Packer quarterback Brett Favre. The NFC is by no means an easy route to the Super Bowl. Teams such as the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, and New Orleans Saints are going to be a challenge for the Packers and their road to the Super Bowl. Bodog.com has them at 24-1 odds on winning it all this year. Once again, we'll have to see what unfolds for the Green Bay Packers and their quest for another Super Bowl victory.
