Tiger Woods Favored To Win FedEx Cup At The Tour Championship

NFL News - September 23rd, 2009 - Written by Scott

tigerBad weather has tormented the Atlanta area over the past week dumping almost two feet of rain and has caused major flooding .  The East Lake Golf Club, the site of this week's Tour Championship, received it's fair share of weather as well, but appears to be playable.  The rain finally stopped on Tuesday morning and the players were allowed onto the course.  The heavy rain has caused maintenance work on the course to be delayed.  The fairways had not been mowed since September 16 and the rough since September 14.  There was some fear that the flooding might cause the tournament to be delayed.  This will not be the case as the course was playable by Tuesday afternoon.  The FedEx Cup winner will be decided on a course that is probably going to play a little more difficult than before.

"Maybe we take them for granted, but the players don't worry so much because we know that the greens keepers will do their job and have everything perfect by the tournament start," said Padraig Harrington. "They'll have it ready to go, and by the end of the week it'll look and be great. "We've seen this happen so many times where a golf course gets flooded out in the practice rounds or even in the tournament rounds, and the staff come out and do an unbelievable job and get everything looking like it never happened."

Based on the point system, the top five players have the best chance of capturing the title.  Tiger Woods is the points leader after his win two weeks ago and replaced Steve Stricker who is now in second.  Jim Furyk has played well over the past few weeks and his performances have landed him in the third spot.  Zach Johnson is in fourth place and rounding out the top five is Heath Slocum, who managed to get into the playoffs by only two points.

Although the top five have the best chance of winning this weekend, all 30 players still can win.  The top five to win the tournament, according to Bodog Sportsbook, are not the top five leaders going into the tournament this weekend.  Woods is the favorite with odds set 1/1.  Harrington and Furyk have odds set at 14/1 and Stricker and Zach Johnson are at 18/1.  The remaining players have their odds listed as well.  Other interesting wagers can also be found at Bodog such as will there be a playoff this weekend  with odds set +225 for Yes and -300 for No.  Another wager that is available is, will there be a hole in one in the tournament with odds set at +350 for Yes and -600 for No.  Finally, will Tiger Woods either lead or co-lead after the first round with Yes at +200.

Some good head-to-head matchups can be found at BetUS Sportsbook...Woods (-380) and Furyk (+280)...Woods (-300) and Stricker (+220)...Stricker (-125) and Johnson (-105)...Harrington (+300) and Woods (-400)...Phil Mickelson (+105) and Stricker (-135) .  These are just a few of the head-to-head matchups and the rest can be found at Betus.
