Tulsa Favored By 7 On the Road Against UTEP

Sports Betting News - October 20th, 2009 - Written by Scott

tulsa golden hurricanes logoTulsa will play their second game in a row on a Wednesday night as the Weekly College Football Schedule has them scheduled to play UTEP in a non-conference matchup.  The Miners will be looking to avenge their humiliating 77-35 loss to the Golden Hurricanes last year.  Tulsa is coming off a tough 28-21 loss to Boise State last week and needs a good outing to gain momentum heading back into conference play next week where they are 2-0.  UTEP (2-4) is also coming off a loss to Memphis 35-20, this coming a week after upsetting then No. 12 Houston.

Tulsa has an explosive offense and is averaging 30 points and 394 yards per game.  They are led by G.J. Kinne who has passed for 1,296 yards and 12 touchdowns.  He has also done a good job of protecting the football and has only thrown 2 picks this year.  Kinne is also gifted running the ball and has needed to run more than anticipated because of poor offensive line play.  They have given up 23 sacks already this year.  The Goden Hurricanes have 4 backs with over 100 yards and are led by Jamad Williams who has 190 yards and 1 touchdown.  Damaris Johnson and Slick Shelley lead their group of wideouts and have combined for 741 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Tulsa's defense has played well all season.  They are only surrendering 18 points per game which places them high amongst the College Football Team Defensive Stat Leaders.  The Golden Hurricanes have not allowed a rushing touchdown all season and will need to continue this effort against a good running team in UTEP.

utep minersUTEP's offense has finally started to come alive in their past few games and they are averaging 39 points over their last two games.  Trevor Vittatoe is their quarterback and has thrown for 1,235 yards and 5 touchdowns.  He will need to do a better job of protecting the ball after already having thrown 7 interceptions.  Running back Donald Buckram will need to continue being a threat against Tulsa to keep the Miners from becoming one dimensional.  He has 618 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns on the year.  Jeff Moturi and Kris Adams lead their group of wideouts and have combined for  612 yards and 3 touchdowns.  However, the receivers have been plagued with dropped passes all year.

The Miners will need to apply pressure defensively against Tulsa.  They have a good opportunity to accomplish this as the Golden Hurricane's offensive line has struggled all season.

According to the College Football Betting Odds, Tulsa will be favored on the road at UTEP by 7 on Wednesday night (Odds found at BetUS Sportsbook).  One note to keep in mind is that UTEP is 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games at home.
