Pittsburgh Routs Louisville En Route To 35 - 10 Win

NFL News - October 3rd, 2009 - Written by Jimmy

pittsburghWhatever Dave Wannstedt said to his players, at halftime, must have worked. Coming out of the locker room, the Pittsburgh Panthers were a new team looking to get a piece of the Louisville Cardinals.

Going into the second half, the Pitt Panthers found themselves down 3 points. The Panthers had gotten to that point by allowing a first quarter touchdown, along with a field goal in the second quarter.

On offense, Pitt was able to score late in the first quarter, on a 5 yard touchdown pass from Bill Stull to Dorin Dickerson. In the second quarter, the Panthers were unable to score any points.

When Pitt got their hands on the ball in the second half, they clearly had a plan. Early in the 3rd quarter, Stull was able to connect with Dickerson again, this time for a 37 yard touchdown pass. At the time, Dickerson had 2 receptions for 42 yards and 2 TDs.

After Louisville surrendered the ball again, it wouldn't take long for Stull and the Panther offense to get back in the end zone. On a play in the middle of the third quarter, Stull dropped back and delivered a perfectly thrown ball to Jonathan Baldwin, hitting him in stride on the way to a 71 yard touchdown pass/reception.

Things would not get better for the Cardinals in the fourth quarter as they would give up two more touchdowns to Pittsburgh, on the ground. A Ray Graham 5 yard touchdown run, and a 3 yard touchdown run by Henry Hynoski sealed the game for the Panthers in the fourth quarter.

The Pittsburgh defense really clamped down in the second half by not allowing Louisville to score. The Panther defense only allowed 305 total yards and created one turnover. Pitt only gave up 3 of 15 third down conversions.

The star of this game was obviously Bill Stull. The Panther QB completed 16 of 23 passes for 242 yards and 3 touchdowns. Stull looked very sharp and did not turn the ball over once.

The victory is now the Panthers' 4th win. They currently have 1 loss, but are looking pretty good coming off this road win at Louisville. Up next for Pittsburgh is the University of Connecticut Huskies.

As for the Cardinals, they have work to do. This loss drops Louisville to 1-3 on the season. The next game for Louisville is at home against Southern Miss.
