No. 3 Texas Looks To Remain Undefeated Against No. 13 Oklahoma State

NFL News - October 28th, 2009 - Written by Scott

longhornsThe No. 3 Texas Longhorns will look to remain undefeated and move up in the BCS standings as they travel to play No. 13 Oklahoma State on Saturday. Both teams realize the importance of this game as they are tied for first place in the Big 12 South. More importantly, Texas will need a win to keep them in a close race with Florida and Alabama for a national title shot. Texas is coming off their 41-7 route over Missouri and the Cowboys defeated Baylor 34-7. The Longhorns haven't lost to Oklahoma State since 1997, including their 28-24 win last year.

Texas brings the nations best scoring offense and is averaging 41.9 points per game. They are led by quarterback Colt McCoy who has thrown for 1,806 yards and 14 touchdowns. Running backs Vondrell McGee and Tre' Newton lead a group of 6 backs who have rushed for over 100 yards and have combined for 481 yards and 5 touchdowns. Jordan Shipley is their playmaker at wide receiver and has 713 yards and 5 touchdowns. Oklahoma State will need to find a way to contain their explosive passing game if they are to be successful.

The Longhorns have been equally impressive on defense and have the second best unit in the nation. They have smothered opponents running game and are allowing only 1.5 yards per carry. Texas has also not allowed three of their last four opponents to reach 175 total yards. They will have an interesting battle against a versatile Cowboy offense and will need to continue the success they have had this season defensively.

Oklahoma State has now learned that they will be without receiver Dez Bryant for the season. This means that Hubert Anyiam will need to step up. He is leading the Cowboys with 306 yards and 4 touchdowns. Zac Robinson is their leader at quarterback with 1,547 yards and 12 touchdowns. They are still without starting running back Kendall Hunter who has missed the last five games with an ankle injury. Keith Toston has done well in his absence and has rushed for 606 yards and 6 touchdowns.

The Cowboys defense will need to find a way to put pressure on the quarterback, something they haven't been able to all season. They have improved greatly on the missed tackles they suffered from early in the season and must not have a setback against Texas.

The last two games between these two teams have been decided by a total of seven points. According to BetUS sportsbook, the Longhorns will be favored by 8 1/2 against Oklahoma State on Saturday. Both teams will be looking for a win as they look to climb up the NCAA College Football Standings.
