American Team Favored In All Saturday Matchs At 2009 President's Cup

NFL News - October 10th, 2009 - Written by Jimmy

presidents cupAt one point on Friday, it looked as if the Americans would run away with the 2009 President's Cup. The Americans were in firm control on Friday, leading 5 of 6 matches, however it was not meant to be, as American split Friday with the International team, 3 to 3.

Currently, the American team holds a slight edge on the Internationals, 6 1/2 to 5 1/2, and action is sure to be intense as golfers take the course on Saturday.

Saturday is going to be a full day of golf for these pros on both sides. Just before 11am EST, the first match will begin with 5 Foursome matches (Alternate shot), and conclude late in the afternoon with 5 Four-ball matches.

The first group of matches are set to go, and the competition has already paired up. At 10:45am, Retief Goosen and Camilo Villegas will be squaring off against Phil Mickelson and Sean O'Hair. The next group, Ernie Els/Adam Scott vs. Jim Furyk/Justin Leonard, will tee off at 10:55am. After that, Robert Allenby and Vijay Singh will face the duo of Stewart Cink and Hunter Mahan right around 11:05am. Around 11:15am, Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker look to continue their domination against the group of Tim Clark and Mike Weir. Finally, at 11:25am, the International team sends Ryo Ishikawa and Y.E. Yang up against Zach Johnson and Kenny Perry from the American team.

Oddsmakers already have odds listed on these matches, which are available to wager on up until individual match tee times. Going first, Goosen/Villegas (+110) take on Mickelson/O'Hair (-140). Second, Els/Scott (-105) go up against Furyk/Leonard (-125). Third match features Allenby/Singh (-110) against Cink/Mahan (-120). After that, Tiger Woods/Steve Stricker (-260) are heavy favorites against Clark/Weir (+210). The last match of the morning has Ishikawa/Yang (+110) vs. Johnson/Perry (-140).

At this time, the afternoon matches have not been announced, however the schedule is listed for the projected tee times. The afternoon fourball session begins at 3:05pm EST with match 18. Match 19 starts at 3:17pm. At 3:30pm, match 20 will get underway. Right around 3:42pm, the groups in match 21 will be on the tee. Finally, the last match of the day, match 22, is slated to begin at 3:55pm.

Pairings for the afternoon Fourball session will be announced at 1pm EST.

The Golf Betting doesn't end with the matches on Saturday, but it also extends to the victor of the President's cup. DSI Sportsbook currently has odds listed for both sides in this contest. As it stands right now, the Americans hold a 1 point advantage which translates to a -400 payout should the Americans win. Those wagering on the International crew will earn a payout of +375 should the Internationals be able to come back and win the 2009 President's cup. The last option, a tie, pays out huge at +1600, something that oddsmakers don't think is likely to happen.

Bettors will have the opportunity to wager on the morning matches up until they tee off in the morning. The same goes for betting on the winner of the President's Cup. Oddsmakers are likely to list odds for the afternoon matches shortly after they are announced at 1pm.

Coverage of the President's Cup is scheduled to begin at 11am EST on NBC. Coverage is scheduled to conclude at 9pm EST.
