Mayweather Jr. Advised Not To Fight Manny Pacquiao

Sports Betting News - July 30th, 2009 - Written by Ryan Smith

Most of the world is ready to see a 12 round fight between undefeated Floyd Mayweather and new unstoppable phenom Manny Pacquiao some time this year. However American boxing trainer Freddie Roach does not believe Mayweather can beat Pacquiao in a full length fight. Roach who is Pacquiao's new trainer told reporters he had this to say to Floyd "Don’t take this fight! Even though this is the fight that all boxing fans want to see, it would not surprise me to see Mayweather fight Mosley instead of Manny,”

The world wants to see Floyd and Manny go at it in the ring, and nothing seems to stand in the way of the boxing inevitable these days. Mayweather has long been the most popular boxer since the departure of Tyson and Hollyfield. Manny Pacquiao is arguably the most famous boxer at the moment do to his recent success in the ring against Oscar De LA Hoya and even more recent Ricky Hatton.

Even If Mayweather does first fight Mosley a fight between Floyd and Manny has to happen if the sport of boxing wants to make a come back in the fan base department. Boxing fans are becoming tired of seeing not interesting fights, Manny and Floyd are the greatest light-Middleweight boxers the world has to offer. So whats stopping this fight from taking place?

Well Freddie Roach is a major reason why the fight is not set to happen yet. Roach keeps telling reporters his man Pacquiao will destroy Mayweather trying to deter Floyd away from taking on the challenge. CBN News reported Roach had this to say about the former champion Mayweather "He presents no problem for Manny. He is too small and fragile for Manny. He doesn’t have the skills to hurt my fighter,” and later commented "He is elusive but he can’t move his body. He is very quick with head movement. You break his body down, he has bad hands, bad ribs, bad knee and he’s had rotator cuff surgery.” Roach also predicted this if the match was ever to happen "Manny will be applying pressure from the beginning and never let up,”

Comments like this might not deter Floyd away, and both fighters claim they are the best in the world in their weight class, so it makes sense to want to fight each other and finally find out who really is the best fighter pound for pound. Both fighters have scheduled fights to take care of, before a fight between them can become reality.

Mayweather is coming out of retirement to fight Manuel Marquez September 20, 2009. Pacquiao is scheduling a fight with Miguel Cotto, though no date has been set at this time. So barring any major inuries a fight between the two most famous boxers is a must. A Floyd Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao fight would draw in more viewers than any other fight in the last two years. Lets make it happen.
