Owner of BetOnSports Withdraws Guilty Plea

Gambling News - October 8th, 2009 - Written by Glen

betonsports logoThe United States government is becoming notorious for their targeting of online gambling ventures as criminal enterprises and BetOnSports is just one of the many gambling sites that have had Problems With Online Gambling In The USA. One of the earliest indictments that had occurred involved David Carruthurs, the owner of BetOnSports, a site that is now all but shut down. Carruthurs had been awaiting trial for his alleged crimes, but a shocking development occurred this week when Carruthurs withdrew his guilty plea.

No statement was made by Carruthurs or his attorney, but such a change has been a cause for confusion. Carruthurs, upon his guilty plea, brought prosecutors to drop twenty years worth of charges against him. The general consensus was that he would receive a time served sentencing due to the house arrest he has been under since the indictment began.

With the proverbial witch hunt against online gambling operators and payment processors, anyone brought to the scaffold under such charges is bound to face the full extent of the law should they fail to comply with government officials. Carruthurs' decision has come as a shock, and nothing will be known until at earliest October 14th, when Carruthurs has to face a "change of plea" hearing.

Carruthurs has been under house arrest for three years, and should he be found guilty without the plea bargain that the feds have offered him, he could face over twenty years for his "crimes."
