Gambling In Indiana Threatened By Ohio and Kentucky Expansion

Gambling News - October 21st, 2009 - Written by Glen

gamblingGambling expansion is the latest craze in many states who have seen low state revenue, causing such states with high unemployment rates and other financial fallacies to follow in suit with their peers. Ohio and Kentucky both stand to expand gambling options within the states, which has cast a cloud over the head of Indiana.

The Associated Press has reported that Indiana stands to lose $250 million dollars in casino revenue should neighboring states Ohio and Kentucky give the green light on gambling. Casinos on the border regularly drag players from the neighboring states into their walls, as if one state will not provide, players will go to the proverbial competition to receive the services they wish.

While most of the gambling expansion ideas are still on the ballots, the threat is ever present. Some of the proposed sites for new casinos, race tracks, and gambling machines lie near the borders of Indiana, further pushing the possibility of stealing customers and clients from the Indiana state casinos. Indiana reportedly receives roughly $900 million dollars a year from gambling, which is a record that could be tarnished should the expansion go through in near by states.

Ohio will decide in November on the issue which is a hot topic throughout the state. Kentucky's governor has been pushing for slot machines and/or casino style gaming at racetracks throughout the state, which could once again deal a devastating blow to the state of Indiana. Michigan already has an established gambling scene, though further expansion could hammer another nail in the coffin of the state of Indiana.

While Indiana stands to take one of the largest hits, other states have been suffering from a similar problem. Atlantic City has lost revenue to Pennsylvania, and all casinos have been losing funds as more players begin to turn to USA Online Gambling.
