Sports Betting News - September 8th, 2009 - Written by Scott

us openAs the U.S. Open continue to roll along, so does No. 1 Roger Federer.  On Monday, Federer defeated  No.14 Tommey Robredo to advance to the quarterfinals.  In a match that lasted 1 hour and 48 minutes, Federer split the first ten games with Robredo before winning fourteen of the next eighteen and winning his 38th straight match at the U.S. Open. Federer moves on to play Robin Soderling, who is advancing to the quarterfinals for the first time at the U.S. Open, which he defeated earlier in the year at the French Open.  Soderling advances after Nikolay Davydenko retired from their match due to a knee injury

In other men's action, John Isner, who knocked out Andy Roddick in the third round, lost to Fernando Verdasco 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.  Verdasco will move on to play Novak Djokovic who defeated Raddek Stepanok on Monday.

Seventeen year old Melanie Oudin of Marietta, Ga is making all of the headlines on the women's side. Oudin, who is sharing a king size bed with her mother at the hotel they are staying in, at this time last year, was ranked 221st in the world. The teenager never shows any kind of distress while out on the court.

“You don’t know if she’s winning or losing,” said her father, John. “She doesn’t seem nervous out there—and I don’t know where that came from.”

Now ranked 70th, she came from behind to beat Nadia Petrova 1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3.During the match, she was five points from a straight-set loss. In all four of her matches at Flushing Meadows, she has had to come from behind to get the victory.  Oudin moves on to face Caroline Wozniack who defeated Svetlana Kutsenova in a later match.   Kutsenova was the only player remaining on this side of the draw with a Grand Slam tournament victory. This could play well for the remaining four in keeping their hopes alive. The word "Believe" is even stamped on both of Oudin's shoes. The winner of this match will face the winner of the Kateryna Bondarenko and Yianina Wickmayer.  Whoverer prevails out of this these four in this draw, should expect to face Serena Williams in the finals despite a set back from Williams on her side.
