Odds Set for SEC Offensive Player Prop Bets

Sports Betting News - September 2nd, 2009 - Written by Scott

southeastern conferenceSEC teams in 2009 are looking to put up huge offensive numbers this year.  The SEC, arguably one of the nations toughest conferences, is greatly known for it's teams defenses.  However, there never seems to be a lack of offensive production throughout the league. Yearly, they have players ranked in the top of all of the offensive categories.

Who will lead the SEC in passing yards in 2009 is going to be interesting to watch unfold.  Florida returns former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.  However, there is quite a bit of buzz coming out of Mississippi regarding Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead.  The Rebels are excited about their year with Snead and the weapons on the outside they have.  In 2008, Snead passed for 2,762 yards connecting on 184 of 327 pass attempts.  Snead had 29 more attempts than Tebow last year and should probably get more this year as well.  Tebow, in 2008, was 192 of 298 and passed for 2,746 yards.  He lost star receiver Percy Harvin but should still fair well in is passing yards.  Florida is always blessed with great receivers year after year.  Head coach Urban Meyer has stated that backup John Brantley will see significant playing time this year and not just in mop-up duty. This could take away from some of Tebow's attempts.  Odds makers at Bodog.com have payouts listed at -145 for Snead and +115 for Tebow in the battle of who will have the most passing yards in the SEC in 2009.

The favored players listed at Bodog.com to lead the league in rushing are Charles Scott of LSU and Michael Smith of Arkansas.  Both of these schools like to pound the ball, so these two should get plenty of touches.  Scott rushed for 1,174 yards on 217 attempts in 2008.  The Tigers are going with a lightly tested sophomore at quarterback so Scott should be their go-to guy on the offensive side of the ball.  Arkansas running back Michael Smith rushed for 1,072 yards on 207 attempts last season.  It will be interesting to see if he gets the same amount of rushes this season as coach Bobby Petrino likes to rotate his backs.  Rest assured, he will get his touches though.  Bodog.com has the odds listed as follows for these two backs to rush for the most yards in the SEC...Scott (-105) and Smith (-125).

The top two receivers projected to lead the conference in receiving in 2009 are A.J. Green and Julio Jones.  Georgia's Green had 56 receptions and 963 yards in 2008.  The Bulldogs lost starting quarterback Matthew Stafford so he will have to rely on very inexperienced quarterback Joe Cox to deliver him the ball.  Julio Jones, considered one of the best in the nation, led Alabama in receiving in 2008 with 58 receptions and 924 yards.  Like Green, Jones lost his starting quarterback in John Parker Wilson.  Both receivers must rely on new quarterbacks in 2009.  Odds makers have the odds set at -110 for Green and -120 for Jones in who will lead the SEC in receiving.
