The Miami Heat Offer Wade a Contract Extension

Sports Betting News - July 13th, 2009 - Written by Ryan Smith

The Miami Heat despite having cap room to make free agency acquisitions, have decided not to make rash decisions in just giving a player 45 million dollars because, the rest of the league is doing so. Keeping up with the rest of the east and making it back to the Finals dose not always consist of buying the highest paid Free Agent every off season. Pat Riley and the Miami Heat know this and have taken other teams like the San Antonio Spurs as an example. The Spurs have drafted all three of their key players in Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, And Manu Ginobili only signing new free agents as off the bench or role players.  The Spurs have won 4 NBA titles since 1999, a record any franchise would be proud to have.

The Heat have decided to take steps in the same direction. July 12th is the first day the Heat are allowed to offer a contract extension to guard Dwayne Wade and the Heat franchise did just that. On Sunday July 12th the Heat offered a disclosed amount but length of the contract is said to keep Wade in Miami until the summer of 2014. If Dwayne Wade decides to make this step in signing with the heat for the next 5 years the Heat franchise will have ample time to support Wade and forward Michael Beasley for another title run.  Wade has expressed his frustrations in the last weeks as other teams have acquired free agents willingly. The Celtics of 2008 have led NBA executives into thinking that a roster of All-Stars wins championships and not the team spirit and unity that last years Lakers showed.

Wade also needs to wait before declining the Heats offer at an extension as more free agents are waiting to join playoff teams. The Heat have shown interest in point guard Allen Iverson as Iverson has said he only wants to sign a one year contract. That one year contract is exactly what the heat want to offer so they can allow themselves room next summer to acquire another all-Star to help wade win titles in the future. Signing Iverson this summer just might keep Wade interested long enough to sign his own contract extension. With Wade and Iverson in the back court it will be tough for other teams to match up since they both create miss match opportunities. My Advice to Dwayne Wade is to stay patient and lead the team on the court in 2009, In 2010 the Heat will sign an all-start caliber player, don't worry.
