Familiar Faces Set To Meet Once Again In Wimbledon Women's Finals

wimbledonAnymore, it seems to be an annual event for the Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, to meet up in the Wimbledon Women's Finals, and 2009 is no exception. In fact, the Williams sisters have won a total of 7 of the last 9 Wimbledon Championships.

For Venus Williams, this will be her 7th appearance in the Wimbledon Women's Finals, which includes 3 championships, over the last 4 years. To advance to the finals, Venus Williams had to face #1 seed, Dinara Safina, who she was able to beat in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-0. Courteous of the Associated Press, Dinara Safina is quoted as saying, "She's just too good on grass," Safina went on to say "It's not my favorite surface, and it's her favorite surface. I think she gave me a pretty good lesson today."

For the other Williams sister, Serena, advancing to the finals wasn't as easy, as she took on 4th seeded Elena Dementieva, in the Wimbledon Women's Semifinal. When she had to, Serena was able to step her game up, and put Dementieva away 6-7, 7-5, and 8-6, in a match that took 2 hours and 49 minutes. The semi finals match ended up being one of the longest in Wimbledon Semi Finals history, including being the longest since 1969.

One thing is for sure, a Williams will definitely win the 2009 Wimbledon Women's Final. This will be their fourth meeting in the Finals at Wimbledon with Venus coming out on top most of the time. The all time series between the Williams' sisters is at 10-10.

Set to take place, from Centre Court at the All England Club, the Williams sisters will meet on Saturday, July 4th. Father Richard Williams is sure to be on edge, as one of his lovely daughters will be crowned as the 2009 Wimbledon Women's Champion.
