Andy Roddick Reaches Quarterfinals At The Legg Mason Classic

Sports Betting News - August 7th, 2009 - Written by Ryan Smith

Andy Roddick entered Thursday night's tennis match against Sam Query with 499 victories in his career. With just one more victory, Roddick would become the 36th player in tennis history to reach 500 career wins. Sam Query has been on a hot streak as of late, reaching the final round of play in three straight finals, and winning last weekend in the LA hard court event. Roddick did win last night, beating Query in two sets 7-6 and 6-4 and claiming his spot amongst the 8 men left in the quarterfinals.

With the win last night, Roddick becomes one of only 4 active tennis players with 500 or more career wins. The other men on this list are Carlos Moya, Lleyton Hewitt, and of course Roger Federer. ESPN reports Roddick had this to say about his victory Thursday night, "I've been able to get over stuff a little bit faster on court and then in the middle of the match, stay the course." Roddick later stated, "When I broke back the second time, I said this is my set to win now and it worked out that way." Roddick won three consecutive straight points while tied at three in the tie-breaker, then defeated Query to go up 2-1 in the second set.
