Safe & Secure Gambling Initiative Launches Advertising Campaign

Gambling News - September 15th, 2009 - Written by Glen

online gamblingThe Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative, a special interest group with online gambling in mind, has recently launched a campaign to promote the freedom of online gambling. While congress is tied up with the health care crisis, the online gambling issue has been pushed to the back burner. Apparently they have not realized that the data suggests that over $60 billion dollars could be generated over a ten year period through the legalization, protection, regulation, and taxation of online gambling - a concept well defended by Barney Frank's Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2009.

The campaign is designed to bring to light that the prohibition of online gambling - like that of alcohol in the aptly named "roaring 20's" - will simply send gamblers into hiding, using such methods as proxies and computers outside of their home - further opening the possibility of identity theft or worse.
“As Congress searches for ways to pay for health care reform and other worthy programs, it should end the unsuccessful prohibition of Internet gambling and start collecting taxes on the billions in revenue currently lost to unlicensed, offshore gambling operators,” said Jeffrey Sandman, spokesperson for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative.

Should the United States begin to license to operators within the borders, the government would stand to rake in a large cut. Several initiatives have already been launched, in addition to the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative, to push forward legalized online gambling. California has toyed with the idea of interstate online pokerooms, Senator Menendez of New Jersey has as well. The use of the banners and advertisements from the S&SIG stands to help with the proposed push for legal gambling.
