Arkansas Lottery Sees Succesful First Day Out

Gambling News - September 29th, 2009 - Written by Glen

lotteryThe first day of the Arkansas lottery shined successfully, moving a large quantity of tickets in a very small period of time. An estimated $600,000 dollars worth of tickets had been moved, with over $450,000 in prizes paid out. Many residents who lived by the border, residents who would travel to the next state over for lottery tickets, have now begun to keep their money in State.

"Not only do I get to by my ticks [sic] right up the block, I know I'm helping college bound kids in our state," said Christina Watkins, a local resident.

The Arkansas Lottery will help fund the scholarships for students who are residents of the state. There are, of course, requirements to receive these scholarships, but this method of educational funding is considered superior to that of the states who use lottery proceeds to fund the education systems entirely. Such an unstable source of income is hardly a safe bet for the future of the children, and is why many states are beginning to turn toward scholarships or a general fund when distributing lottery proceeds.

It is estimated that the lottery will move over $400 million dollars worth of tickets, and there are talks of adding Powerball and other pick style games to their repertoire. The only people complaining about the shift are those from the Texas lottery, due to the probable drop in revenue they will see over the upcoming months. In late October, Powerball will hit the shelves, leaving Arkansas residents the option for massive jackpots - the only reason they may still go to Texas to play the drawn lotteries.

By December, other draw games are reportedly going to be adding, leaving the Arkansas lottery as powerful as any of the near by states. The Tennessee and Texas lotteries will suffer the most from the deal, leaving Arkansas room to flourish. To take the games a step further, Arkansas even funds a problem gambling program through the sales of the tickets.
