Letterman Fights Back

David Letterman is one of the beloved late night hosts and has been making us laugh for more than 30 years. The Late Show is watched by millions and it was those very viewers that were shocked to learn of Letterman's involvement in a sexual relationship with one of his co-workers. Letterman has always appeared to be in a loving marriage, which provided a healthy and happy home for his much loved young son. It was only recently that he himself, admitted an inappropriate relationship with one of the ladies that worked at the network.

Although Letterman did display some unprofessional behavior, it was his refusal to give in to bullying that let to the arrest of a man that was trying to take advantage of the situation and extort $2 million from Letterman. Letterman was contacted by, oddly enough, one of the producers of 48 Hours, who was attempting to collect money from Letterman as a promise to hush the situation. Letterman knew that giving into the request would only create a stickier situation, so instead, he notified local authorities. An undercover operation was set up and once the funds exchanged hands, an arrest was made and the man trying to collect was arrested on extortion charges.

Half the battle is won, and now Letterman will have to face the public, his fans and most importantly, his family. Letterman made a public statement during one of the tapings of the show and did in fact apologize for his inappropriate behavior, but will that be enough to earn the respect back from the ones he truly loves. Letterman has admitted some guilt in the situation and to what extent his past goes, is still a question that has yet to be answered. Just how many affairs occurred, and how long each one lasted, may very well determine if he can in fact recover from this sex scandal.
