Sports Betting News - July 24th, 2009 - Written by Ryan Smith

The rain came down in day two of the 2009 senior British Open, Play was delayed for the rest of the day and is scheduled to restart early Saturday morning. Still even with the bad weather and constant rain fall, Fred Funk managed to give the crowd a show once again. After shooting a 64 on Thursday, day one of the 2009 Senior British Open, Funk now holds the all time record for lowest scorecard ever in the first round of play at the senior Open.

That great play by Funk carried over to day two of the Open, after playing par golf on the first nine holes Funk turned his game up. With 4 birdie putts on the back nine and a 5th birdie on the 17th hole in which he chipped the ball in from inside a bunker. On the 18th hole Funk hit an approach shot with an 8 iron and finished the hole and the day with an eagle. Funk ended the second day of play with a round of 65 and a total of 11 under on the tournament and leads by 3 under.

Tom Watson who played well in the British open a couple of weeks ago finished well on the first day of play, but did not get the chance to tee off in round two do to the bad weather. Watson ended yesterdays round 1 with a modest 67 and is still tied with 5 other players for 7th place in the tournament. Watson will need some Saturday heroics to catch back up and contend for the championship on Sunday.

Behind Funk atop of the leader board is Sam Torrence native of Scotland, who shot a 67 yesterday and finished 16 holes today at 65 under. The American golfers have a good chance to take the title home in 2009. Three other Americans besides Fred Funk are in the top 5 after two days of golf. Tom Kite, Michael Allen, and Loren Roberts all have a chance to play well and win the tournament on Sunday. It's just hard to pick any one besides Fred Funk to win this years senior British Open with the way he has displayed his golf game these last two days.
