Sports News - December 5th, 2009 - Written by Jimmy

mayweather fightIt would appear as though the Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight for March 13th is on. ESPN is reporting that both sides have agreed to a 50/50 split of what is assured to be the biggest purse in Boxing history.

While the fighters and the date have been established, it is still unknown where the fight will take place. Many venues have put their names in the running including the MGM Grand, the Superdome, as well as Dallas Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones with his new Texas Stadium.

The deal was rumored to be finalized when Manny Pacquiao signed the agreement in a late Friday night agreement.

Other details revealed by ESPN's source, both fighters will be wearing 8oz gloves, of their choice, and will take place at the 147lb weight class.

Originally, promoters were pushing for a fight in the month of May, but the fighters were unable to come to an agreement on that date, due to Pacquiao running for a congressional office back in his home, the Philippines. With a May fight, Pacquiao would be unable to train for the fight nor campaign for the upcoming May election.

Boxing fans are sure to be hyped about this match. Finally fans are getting the fight they've been calling for and experts think it could be epic.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40-0, 25KO) and Manny Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38KO) will come face to face for the only time before the fight at a NYC press conference scheduled for some point during the second week of January.

From now until the fight actually begins, bettors will have the opportunity to wager on their favorite fighter, or the fighter they're predicting to win. Betting On Boxing was once very popular, something that should be renewed with the bout.

HBO PPV is scheduled to cover the fight on March 13th, 2010, a date they had previously reserved for another fight. The fight will be for the WBO Welterweight title.
