Andy Roddick Returns to the Tennis Court

Sports Betting News - August 6th, 2009 - Written by Ryan Smith

After taking Roger Federer to the final set in the Wimbledon just a couple of months ago, Andy Roddick returns to the tennis court in the Legg Mason Tennis Classic this weekend. The tournament is held at Rock Creek Park in Washington DC at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center, and the event was put together to benefit the Washington Tennis and Education Foundation. Andy Roddick is the big name in the event, and the heavy favorite to win the straight bet, as he has won this tournament three times in the past. The first win came in 2001, followed by the second win in 2005, then the third in 2007. The Legg Mason Tennis Classic is an ATP world tour 500 tournament, and this event happens to be one of the top 20 men's Tournaments this year.

Andy Roddick plays today at 7 pm against Sam Querrey, and Roddick is a -600 favorite to win this match up today against Querrey. Besides Tommy Hass and Lleyton Hewitt who both entered the event, Andy Roddick is the out right fan favorite in Washington DC this weekend. With the way Roddick played against Federer in the Wimbledon classic he has gained a new fan base around the world. That match between Roddick and Federer a month ago gained more television viewers during the Wimbledon, than last years Nadal versus Federer match up. Though Roddick lost that match against Federer, tennis fans all over noticed how Roddick played with passion and an enthusiasm to beat the best in the world.

Online sportsbook providers such as Bodog and DSI have already released the betting odds for individual match ups. Tommy Hass plays Juan Carlos Ferrero today at 4:00 pm, and Hass is a favorite to win at -180, a good wager to place. Also Lleyton Hewitt, who won the event in 2004 plays Juan Martin Del Porto the winner of this event last year at 5:00 pm, and Hewitt is a +180 underdog in that match up. Though Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are not playing in this event it should still be a great tennis tournament to watch and wager on. The final round of play is set for August 9, Sunday afternoon at 12:00 pm, and most hope Roddick can find a way to make it to the final. Roddick will have to get pass Sam Querrey this evening, but we know if he makes it to the fianl match play the fans will be on his side.
