New Steps Being Taken to Prevent Underage Internet Gambling

Gambling News - December 27th, 2009 - Written by Glen

gamblingOne of the biggest problems that many legislators see with online gambling is that of the possibility of underage members actively taking part in the gaming. Gambling is, in most states, restricted to only players aged twenty one years of age or older, but due to the anonymous nature of the Internet, anyone could, in theory, log in and begin to place wagers. New steps, however, are being taken in order to prevent underage gambling.

While a problem in land based poker rooms and sportsbooks alike, it is easier to detect underage gamblers due to the solid nature of checking identification. Online gambling sites, including poker rooms, sportsbooks, and casinos, have a slightly more troubling time. A new method, however, the faxback verification, has made it easier for casinos to verify identification. Should an underage gambler decide to abscond with a deposit method and fund an account, they will not only fail to withdraw their funds, but will have their initial deposit confiscated.

Faxback verification entails a simple process. As the name suggests, a photo copy of a state issue ID, a utility bill, and a credit card are usually required in order to maintain only legal aged gamblers. Some casinos will also require a phone call, all in order to verify that the faxing party is who they claim to be. Should any of these checks fail, the gaming center will not allow that player's account to remain open.

As an added perk, may online gambling sites will give a bonus when the verification is complete.

While this verification only need be done once, it secures the account from an underage gambler indefinitely. While it is possible for young players to enjoy gaming, they will never enjoy the winnings that they earn, and will ultimately cost themselves a harsh lesson - breaking the rules will end in personal loss.
