  • Status: Completed
  • Winner: Rep Porter
  • Buy In: $2,500
  • Winner's Take: $210,615
  • Runner Up: Stephen Su

Seven Card Razz is the name of the game in Event 44, providing players with one of the more exotic styles of game play. While Razz is not the most frequently experienced style of game play, it is out there and these tournaments do periodically launch. This is the only pure Razz event in the series. Last year's singular Razz tournament brought out 365 players, with a buy-in of $2,500. This made the prize pool $839,500. Frank Kassela dominated the event, with Maxwell Troy right behind him.

This year's version of the Seven Card Razz tournament will kick off on June 25th. Players will have to use a buy-in worth $2,500 in order to enter the event. Players who buy-in will begin playing at 5 PM in the afternoon. Those who participate will play for a maximum of three days, with the tournament ending on June 27th.

Tournament Updates
(New Updates Posted Daily During Event)

Day 1 Update - The first day of the seven card razz event brought out 363 entrants, and only 166 remain. The event had been delayed by an hour due to the 43rd event kicking off, which made it so only 8 levels would be played. Frank Kassela, winner of this event last year, is still in the running. Along with him surviving into the next day are Jason Mercier, Chad Brown, Tom Dwan, Erik Seidel, and Victor Ramdin, Jeff Lisandro, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu, David Benyamine, Todd Brunson and David Chiu have all been sent home. Nine levels will be played tomorrow rather than ten, and players will be coming back to battle for the WSOP gold and the $210,615 top prize.

Day 2 Update - By the end of day, the 166 players that had come out to resume playing during the second day have been slimmed down to 23. Many powerhouse poker players had been eliminated during the second day, including Jason Mercier, Daniel Idema, Jason Somerville and Chris Viox. Tom Dwan had also been eliminated. Several mentionable players had also made it to the third day, including Victor Ramdin and Chad Brown. The chip leader is Tommy Chen, and he holds 473,000 chips in this razz tournament. The final 23 are working toward the $210,615 top prize, with the gold bracelet going along with it. Players will deal with 4,000/8,000 chips, with an ante of 1,000. This razz tournament may force a fourth day, but players are hopeful to seal the deal in three.

Day 3 Update - The seven card razz vent has brought the remaining players down to just 2, with 23 entering the third day. The ten level rule has struck again, though this is somewhat surprising considering the limited field coming back for the razz event. The chip stacks are fairly even with the heads up play, with Stephen Su in control of 1,655,000 chips. Rep Porter has a total of 1,080,000 chips to his name. Su's chip lead could give him the room he needs to finish off Porter, but the event can still go either way. Stephen Su and Rep Porter did not enter the final table in dominant positions, but they have come down to heads up play and they did so by out lasting Tommy Chen, Robert Williamson III, Andreas Krause, Matt Smith, Chris Bjorin, and Scott Epstein at the final table. The 44th bracelet of the event will go to the lucky winner, as will a prize of $210,615.

Day 4 Update - A fourth day was forced in the seven card razz event, with relatively equal stacks between the two remaining players - Stephen Su and Rep Porter. Su had a chip lead of 1,655,000 to Rep Porter's 1,080,000. Su's chip lead going into the forced fourth day would not last, as Rep had began pummeling Su over a 2 hour battle between the two remaining players. It came down to the final hand, and Su completed. Rep Porter raised, and Su shoved. Su showed 3x-2x-Ax, giving him a solid start. Porter's 6x-9x-8x left him fairly far behind. Su hit a 4x on the fourth street, putting him one card away from his wheel. Porter paired up, landing another 8. Su received a 10 on the fifth, with Porter earning a 2 and the ability to draw into a nine-low. A couple of blanks landed for both players on the 6th, with the 7th card sealing the deal. Rep Porter hit a 4, giving him the win - a bracelet and $210,615.
