2011 World Series Of Poker Event 23

Eight poker games have been tossed into the mix of of Event 23. These mixed games almost always offer a highly exciting affair. You will find that Limit Hold 'em, Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better, Seven Card Razz, Seven Card Stud, Seven card Stud Hi-Low Split 8 or Better, No Limit Hold 'em, Pot Limit Omaha, and 2-7 Triple Draw Low Ball are all incorporated into this event. This is a new sort of event for the World Series of Poker, and it is likely to be one of the best in the series. A relatively low by-in is required, and the event should attract some of the more versatile players in the poker world - both recreational and professional.

Event 23 will begin on Monday, June 13th. Players will be sitting at these tables in the event that they drop a financial commitment of $2,500. You will see that it is set to last three days, ending on June 15th. Stiff competition is likely to be a part of this event, so do not expect an easy win. It could ultimately be your moment of glory, however, if you manage to beat the field and take down the bracelet in this esoteric style of poker.

Tournament Updates
(New Updates Posted Daily During Event)

Day 1 Update - Event 23 began on the 13th, and 489 players came out to participate in this mixed event. Only 248 players remain in the field, and a prize pool of $1,112,475 has been created from the $2,500 buy-in. The chip leader at the end of the first day was Abraham Mourshaki, who held 64,850 chips. Nikolay Evdakov was in second place, with 57,725 chips. Jimmy FRicke, Eric Buchman, Frank Kassela, Greg Meuller, Eugene Katchalov, Phil Hellmuth, John Racener, Josh Arieh, Shaun Deeb, Huck Seed, Eric Froehlich, Alex Kravchenko, Vladimir Shchemelev, Eli Elezra, Maria Ho, John Juanda, David Benyamine, and several other pros are still in the tournament. Daniel Negreanu, Todd Brunson, Mike Matusow and David Williams are amongst the fallen for the first day. The bubble will burst at 48 players, with a minimum prize of $4,883 for their efforts, with a top prize of $278,114.

Day 2 Update - Mixed games generally bring out a large number of professional players, and event 23 is no different. On the third day of play, many big names remain in the 25 that remain. John Racener controls the highest chip stack, which has 363,600 in the pile. Eric Buchman, John Juanda, Shawn Buchanan and Nikolay Evdakov all remain in this event. Racener was the 2010 WSOP's main event runner up and John Juanda has already taken down a bracelet this year, so competition is fairly high. Chip stacks for the top ten players are all fairly even, ranging from 185,000 to 363,000. Every player will earn at least $6,752, while the top prize is set at $278,144.

Day 3 Update - John Monnette has taken down event 23, the $2,500 Eight Game Mix. The mixed games are always dominated by professional players, but Monnette has managed to oust the competition and win $278,114 and a WSOP bracelet. The day began with 25 players, including Nikolay Evdakov, Max Pescatori, John Racener and Eric Buchman. Eric Buchman survived until heads up. When it came to the final hands, seven card stud and seven card stud split 8 or better were the active games. On the final hand, Eric Buchman held 8c-2c in the hole, and a 10c-Js-8d-6s showing. Monnette held 3d-2d-Ah-Jc-Jd-Kd. The seventh card showed an 8c for Monnette, while Buchman tabled a 6h. Buchman commented on his $171,855 easing the pain of losing.
