World Series of Poker event 12 is the World Championship Mixed Event. All 57 events in this year’s WSOP are gold bracelet events; however a few of the events are also designated as World Championship events. The winners of these events will be declared as world champions in that particular category in addition to being awarded the golden bracelet.

The initial buy-in for World Championship Mixed Event 12 of the 2009 WSOP is $10,000 so only dedicated poker enthusiasts are expected to participate. The format is a mix of Triple Draw Deuce to Seven Hold ‘em, Razz Stud 8 and No-limit Hold ‘em-PLO (without ante). The event structure remains largely untouched with a level 1 Razz ante bet of $50, blinds for the Triple Draw Deuce to Seven Omaha between $100-$200 and blind range for the NLHE portion of $50-$100.

This event has been traditionally a star-studded affair with many of game’s heavyweights taking part annually. Last year’s World Champion for Mixed Events, Anthony Rivera, took home prize money of $483,668, edging out many of the game’s celebrated champions. The event had about 192 entrants and a combined prize pool of a little over a million dollars in the 2008 edition of WSOP. The 2009 World Series of Poker event 12 World Championship Mixed Event tournament is sure to draw in some attention.

Day 1 Recap
The World Championship mixed event that marks Event 12 ended day 1 with 128 out of 194 still at the tables. Daniel Negreanu leads with the sharp Vanessa Rousso right behind him. Jimmy Fricke, Eric Froehlich, and Nick Schulman are right behind the initial pair. Top names were knocked out during day one, including Tony G, Phil Ivey, and Mike Matusow.
