Why Online Gambling Should Be Illegal In The USA

If you want to hear a heated conversation simply tell someone in love with Poker that they shouldn’t be allowed to play.  If that isn’t enough to get them going tell them they should be locked up in an eight by eight prison cell simply for a playing a game that they’ve grown to love.  By making online gambling illegal this is exactly what you’d be saying, in effect, if they choose to continue to play.  But there are certainly reasons why online gambling in the United States should be illegal.

Gambling, and online gambling in particular, leads to excess and outright sloth.  With it being so easy to play from home there are many people who have become absolutely addicted to gambling to the point that they are virtually house ridden.  With no reason to venture outside they sit in their dimly lit rooms playing their games while the other joys of life passes them by.  Without the ability to venture out and earn more money many people find themselves hopelessly in debt enslaved by a game that used to bring them joy.  Of course, there is the occasional win but that is always going to be too few and far between to really amount to anything substantial.

Aside from the destroying, addictive effect that online gambling has the potential to ingrain in even the most casual player there is also the loss of revenue that would be going to local economies if the player decided to use their hard earned income in more productive means.  Most times these casinos are located in areas of the world that the player from the US would never even have heard of.  The losses and revenue that the casino is making off of this player goes into their coffers and there is absolutely no benefit to the player’s hometown economy because their money is essentially being whisked out of the country.

Even if someone were to overlook the above stated issues with online gambling, and entertain the idea for a moment it is unbeneficial to the player to gamble online because it is not regulated as stringently as land based casinos.  Casinos in Las Vegas, for example, have to abide by a myriad of rules and regulations to ensure that players are merely playing games of chance and aren’t the unwitting participants in some type of fraudulent scheme that the casino owners have devised.  Online casinos aren’t made to abide by such a strict standard of rules and regulations so it really is hit or miss as to whether or not a player is even getting a sporting chance and it is nearly impossible to police such an international phenomenon as online gambling has become.

While some may argue that they should be allowed to play for the love of the game and if they merely want to play the game that’s fine, but the act of placing wagers is detrimental to society as a whole and shouldn’t be allowed in the United States now or ever.
