Main Event Final Table Betting Lines

Poker News - July 22nd, 2009 - Written by Bruce

The betting lines for the remaining nine players of this year's World Series of Poker Main Event have been released. The players, known as the November Nine, will begin the final table on November 7th after a nearly four month break in the tournament. The overwhelming chip leader is Darvin Moon who has almost 59 million chips. Moon is the expected favorite in the betting lines to win the tournament whose line is set at 3/1. By far the biggest name among the final table participants is Phil Ivey who is widely regarded as the top poker player in the world. Ivey is 7th in chips with 9.7 million chips but he is the odds makers 5th favorite to win with his line set at 7/1. There is no doubt that Ivey will be the main person people talk about leading up to November's final table. This year's Main Event started with 6,494 players and that fact that Ivey has made it all the way to the final table has created a huge buzz in the poker world.

Eric Buchman has the 2nd largest chip stack sitting on 34.8 million chips. Betting lines have Buchman apporiately listed as the 2nd betting favorite to win with his line set at 9/2. The 3rd largest chip stack belongs to Steven Begleiter who has just under 29.9 million chips. Begleiter is the odds makers 4th listed favorite with his set at 6/1. CardPlayer Magazine's editor Jeff Shulman is currently 4th in chips with just shy of 19.6 million chips. Odds makers have Shulman as the 3rd listed favorite with his line set at 11/2. The 5th largest chip stack belongs to Joseph Cada with a little over 13.2 million chips. Cada is tied with Kevin Schaffel as lines makers 6th favorite to win with the line set at 15/1. Schaffel currently has just over 12.3 million chips which is good for the 6th biggest stack. With 9.5 million chips Antoine Saout is the second shortest stack remaining but odds makers have him listed as the biggest underdog to win at 20/1. The smallest chip stack belongs to James Akenhead who has 6.8 million chips and he is listed at 17/1 to win.

The Main Event final table is set and with the betting lines now out it will generate plenty of discussion among poker fans. Chip leader Darvin Moon may be hard to catch with such a big chip lead. Even though Phil Ivey is well back of him, if he can double up early and get a few more chips to work with he very well may be able to win poker's biggest tournament. Both Ivey and Jeff Shulman are seasoned professional poker players and they both have plenty of World Series experience. If the chip leader falters at all and one of these two is able to get off to a good start, look for either Ivey or Shulman to have a great chance of winning.
