We Have Our Novemeber Nine of the 2009 WSOP

Poker News - July 16, 2009 - Written by Bonnie

We have seen the last of the 2009 WSOP tournament until November and what a long road we have traveled to get our final nine. Day 8 started at noon on Wednesday with 27 players and slightly before 11:00 pm, we were down to our final nine. Elimination started just 20 minutes into the game with the exit of the only woman left standing, Leo Margets. That seemed to spring players into action and we quickly saw the chips rising for some players and shortening for others. By the end of the first level of play, three more players were sent packing, including poker player Antonio Esfandiari. Determination is high at this point and throughout the day of play , seemed to be a struggle for quite a few players. One by one they continued to be eliminated at quite a fast pace.

As the remaining players battled their way to stay in the game, tension was rising and players began giving everything they got to outlast the big stacks in the game. Darvin Moon, Steve Beligeiter and Billy Kopp watched their chip counts grow at they applied much pressure to those players who were less fortunate in chips. Kopp may of been just a tap bit to eager and made a bad call that would put him out in 12th place and leave him wishing he had been just a little more patient.

Like most of the play throughout the 2009 WSOP, Phil Ivey was one in the spotlight during this field. Although at times he seemed to be in danger of being eliminated, he managed to maintain his focus, which kept him in the game and earned him a spot in the November Nine. Phil Ivey ended Day 8 of the 2009 WSOP with a chip count of 9,765,000. He will be joined at the table by current chip leader Darvin Moon who holds a chip count of 58,930,000, James Akenhead with 6,800,000, Kevin Schaffel at 12,390,000, Steven Begleiter with 29,885,000 chips, Eric Buchman 34,800,000, Joe Cada with 12,215,00, Antonnio Saout at 9,500,000 and Jeff Schulman with 19,580,000 chips.

What a table full of talented poker players. This final table is going to be one you can not take your eyes off but we will have to wait several months to see how the final stages of the 2009 WSOP will play out. The final table activities will take place November 9-10, 2009.
