Antoine Walker Could Face 1-4 years in Prison for Each Felony Charge

Casino News - July 21st, 2009 - Written by Bonnie

Antoine Walker was speechless after his court appearance on Monday. Walker is being charged with several counts of placing bets in Las Vegas casinos without the funds to cover those bets, in other words, writing bad checks. Walker made a brief appearance in the court room right along side his attorney Johnathon Powell, both whom declined to comment when leaving the court room. Walker was not forced to enter a plea before the court and a evidentiary hearing is set for September 16th.

According to prosecutor Bernie Zadrowski, an attempt to reach a settlement agreement between the two sides is under consideration and is said to be decided on before we reach the next court date. With three felony charges against Walker, he could be spending quite a long time behind bars, which would be a major change from his upscale life style he has grown accustom to in Chicago. Walker's contract with the Memphis Grizzlies was bought out in December of last year and he is currently employed as a basketball free agent out of Chicago.

Walker might of had the basketball talent to carry him 12 years in the NBA, but street smarts is really what he is lacking. Walker was in Nevada for a Celebrity Golf Tournament and apparently was not too concerned with returning to the same state in which he held 3 felony charges. He was aware of the warrants out for his arrest and what better way to make your presence known then by attending a well advertised sporting event. It was not long before a casino employed put the face with a name and notified authorities at which he was taken into custody.

Chances are a deal will be struck with the parties in question and Walker will be forced to pay what he should of all along. In making over $100 million in his 12 years with the NBA, you would think squeezing out enough to pay his debt and what ever restitution he may face. This situation just goes to prove that money and fame can come at a high cost.
