Poker And Prop Bets Leave Phil Ivey Hungry

Poker News - March 10th, 2010 - Written By Glen

phil iveyAny poker fan who follows the televised high stakes poker games are aware that poker is not the only game that occurs at the felts. Prop betting is a frequent occurrence at the poker tables, especially when some of the more charismatic and out spoken card sharks meet on the battle field.

In a recent episode of High Stakes Poker, an interested prop bet had surfaced. Phil Ivey, considered the best poker player in the world, and Tom Dwan, also known as "durrrr," an Internet poker super star, had engaged in a conversation that had strayed so far away from poker that the $1 million dollar wager is one that had left observers with blown minds.

Tom Dwan actually challenged Phil Ivey to this $1 million dollar bet stating that Ivey could not go an entire year without eating meat - not even fish.

When Kara Scott, High Stakes Poker's hostess, asked about the wager, Ivey said "I'm going to become a vegetarian for a year for a million dollars. I was thinking about doing it for a while, so this is kind of like an added incentive."

Though Ivey had agreed to the wager, he did not seem quite content with it during game play. His demeanor had changed, and he was even heard to say "I'm gonna lose, I know I'm gonna[sic]."

Incidentally, Ivey had reportedly lost a $1 million dollar prop bet to Dwan during the 2009 WSOP. Ivey paid Dwan over a bet on the condition that Ivey would win the main event. If Ivey cannot stick to his new dietary restrictions, he may be paying Dwan yet another $1 million.

Both Dwan and Ivey are players are Full Tilt Poker, one of the Best USA Poker Rooms, where they both frequent the high stakes cash tables.
