Players Championship comes to a close

May 11, 2009 - Wrote By Glen

Henrik Stenson, the man who stripped to near nothing to hit a ball out of the water at Doral. This Sunday, Stenson managed to escape the Championship with the win.

Tiger fought his way into the final group, but his efforts were in vain as he was shooting to the right all day. He ended the day with a 1-over par score of 73. Henrik walked with a 12 under par as well as a cool 1.7 million. Stenson shocked fans by coming through with the victory. He landed 26 of the 28 fairways over the weekend, keeping to the short grass to further his efforts. Stenson blew ahead of the competition leaving his next trailer behind by four shots.

Tiger played a poor game from the beginning. On the first hole Woods hit a perfect low cut with the 3-wood but badly pushed a 128 yard wedge shot to the right side of the green. On the second hole, Woods drove to the left then tried to draw his second shot into the green. It stayed right and plunged into the water. Woods referred to these shots as "spinners" that he could not correct.

Stenson fought hard all game, starting with six straight pars. On the seventh hole he hit a birdie. Continuing into the lead he took the par-5 nine in two and almost landed a 54-foot putt for an eagle. Shooting 32 on the back, no one stood the chance of catching up. His comeback tied the biggest leap in Players history.
