Supreme Court Recognizes Legality Of Sports Betting In Delaware

June 1, 2009 - Written by Glen

delwareAn epic win for the gambling community has been had in Delaware. Delaware's Supreme Court has confirmed the legal status of sports betting in Delaware, leading to it being the first eastern state to allow Sports betting. The only upset parties are the sporting organizations themselves. The NFL was the biggest opposition the bill had to contend with.

The NFL has been in negotiations with state lotteries to grant licenses for revenue. The Patriots and the Redskins have both granted state lotteries the right to use their insignia on scratch tickets.

All that is left for the NFL to do is exacerbate the legal battle by bringing a law suit to the Supreme Court. This would be their last ditch effort to prevent the sports gambling from coming to fruition. This would, however, tie up resources and finances - the same thing the NFL is trying to conserve.

Delaware is now empowered with the ability to begin formulating how the gambling will work. Parlays are the most common form of sports betting outside of Vegas and USA online sportsbooks, so there will be little surprise if that is the case. The legal foundation for gambling is now in place and Delaware has full authority in how they will develop it.
