Ricky Barnes Leads After Two Rounds At 2009 US Open

June 20, 2009 - Written by Steve

3rd round tee times for 2009 US OpenThe second round of the 2009 US Open is finally complete after 3 days of playing golf and Ricky Barnes holds the top spot on the leaderboard. He got that spot by shooting a remarkable 65 today, which is -5 at Bethpage Black, and a 67 in the first round. That is good enough for Ricky Barnes to set a 36 hole tournament record. Golfers Azuma Yano and amateur golfer Nick Taylor also brought a score of 65 for the day into the clubhouse. Shooting a 65 would be an amazing score for any golfer that plays this golf course, but these 3 guys are not exactly at the top of the golf rankings and it must feel especially good for them.

As good as their scores were at this golf course, they did not bring in the lowest scores of the day. The best round of the US Open now belongs to Lucas Glover, who shot a 64 today to put him alone in second place with a total score of -7.  He did so by shooting a bogey free round of gold and getting five birdies in the process.

The day was not quite as easy for most of the other big names in the tournament including the worlds number one player. Tiger Woods ended the day at -1 and tied for 40th place at +3 for the tournament. Tiger had three bogies in the second round and four birdies, including one on the 18th hole to finish the round. Notable golfers Stewart Cink(T33), Angel Cabrera(T40), and Jim Furyk(T23) also shot a 69 today.

A great ending to watch during the day came for Jason Tyler when he needed to hole out a shot to make the cut. He was in some very deep rough and when he swung, the ball did not move. He then tapped the ball into the bunker because he knew he did not make the cut. Tyler quickly took his next shot out of the bunker and ended up holing it out. Even though he did not make the cut, he did end the tournament with an incredible shot that he will remember for a long time.

The tee times for the third round of the US Open have been released and play is expected to resume at 5:30 EST . If they get started by the estimated time of 5:30, the players will be able to get in about 3 hours of golf. That could prove to be a lot of golf , since there is only 60 players left in the field. Players will be paired up in twosomes and will be teeing off from both tees.
