Penguins Face Elimination Tonight

June 9th, 2009 - Written by Glen

pittsburgh penguinsThe Stanley Cup Finals are almost complete, with the defending champions, the Red Wings, forcing a repeat of last season. Since the beginning of the series between the Wings and the Penguins, odds makers have been keeping the Wings as the favorite. This has been an important season for the Penguins, as they have vastly improved their line up since the previous year. These two ice skating titans squared off last year, leaving the penguins dejected yet hopeful.

Gave Six is tonight, June 9th, and the Red Wings will be meeting the Penguins in Pittsburgh. This season has been one of record setting for the Penguins, with it being worth mention that they have not let a visiting team take a win all season. This is the only hope the Penguins have, other than the ultimate victory, as if they are routed tonight the Finals come to a close with the Penguins once again going home empty handed.

The Red Wings have been the most consistent team over the course of the past ten few years, leading them to be the basis off which other teams build themselves. Conversely, the Penguins have had some young names out to earn their glory. Crosby and Malkin have been fighting for pride and the coveted cup, but the uphill battle with the Wings has proven difficult for them. Game 5 was a 5 point shut out, giving the Penguins their third loss.

A two day break rested between Game 5 and the upcoming 6, leaving the players rested and ready to duke it out. The Penguins are on their last leg, and this game is the deciding factor in their potential win. Odds have consistently favored the Red Wings, and this game will be no different.
