Thursday Morning Poker After Dark Recap

Poker News - September 11th, 2009 - Written by Glen

poker after darkThe third day of Poker After Dark: The Cash Game came to an end, with predictable results. The game, featuring Tom "Durrrr" Dwan, Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, and several other big names, is a high stakes cash game featuring a minimum buy in of $100,000 dollars. The blinds began at 200/400, but have rapidly risen to 300/600, with a 100 dollar ante.

Durrrr came into day three with the largest chip stack, with Eli Elezra and Phil Ivey barely above the line. Durrrr had one several large pots, on the day prior, including one worth well over $100,000 dollars. Sahamias had given Durrrr most of his initial buy in, and Durrrr has been successful in defending his stack. Phil Ivey, a normally agressive player, had been fairly slow off the snap since day one, but his true colors have been shining in the most recent day. Lederer, a strong tournament player, has had ill luck in the cash game. Patrik Antonious has also been suffering, and today was equally as devestating for Antonious.

Tom Dwan had ended up losing several sizable hands through out the night, while Phil Ivey began to pull down some extra pots. Ivey started off strong, ending the day with a significant boost to his bank roll. The dominant names on the table throughout the evening were Phil Ivey, Ilari Sahamias, and Dwan. Ilari Sahamias had slightly recouped for his losses on the prior two days, but couldn't earn back the first bust of the week. Ivey's aggressive play style came to fruition, as his raises were consistently over $10,000 dollars, even on the most lurid of hands.

Eli Elezra had performed very well on the first two nights, but was not getting dealt very solid hands. In one instance, a triple straddle had taken place. Eli straddled ahead of Sahamias, who was then outplayed by Ivey. The total pot, prior to the blinds, ended with nearly $10,000 in the middle. Everyone folded Lederer, who raised almost twice the pot with a pocket eights. When Ivey finally peeked as his hands, he saw a pair of nines. Ivey shoved his stack, sending Lederer into five minutes of deliberation. Lederer ended up losing out on his raise, though he made the right call. Lederer was obviously upset by the end of the hand, though he was comforted when Ivey told him his hand.

Throughout the entire night, prop bets were flying back and forth through the tables. Antonious, Durrrr, and Ivey were the primary participants, though Eli Elezra and Ilari Sahamias had also taken place. Day four will reconvene the games at 2AM friday morning, and should prove just as interesting as the day previous.
