Poker News - September 9th, 2009 - Written by Glen

poker after darkThe newest edition of Poker After Dark continued early this morning on NBC, pitting six of the best players from around the world against each other. Ivey, Durrr, Elezra, and Lederer are the top names at the table. This match of Poker After Dark is a high stakes cash game, with blinds of 200 and 400 and an ante of 100. Going into the night, all players were down some cash other than Tom "Durrr" Dwan and Eli Elezra. Even November Nine's Phil Ivey had some work to do to climb back to level ground.

The night began well for Phil Ivey. Ivey took down the first three of four hands, taking the first hand from Howard Lederer after Lederer failed to bluff Ivey out of the pot. The next winning hand to Ivey came at the expense of Patrik Antonious, who had limped into the pot with a pocket pair of deuces. Ivey was playing his normal, aggressive attitude throughout the day. compared to a more tight Ivey on day one.

The biggest hand of the night saw a pot of $274,900, played in a heads up scenario between Patrik Antonious and Howard Lederer. Both players had pocket aces, with a flop of a nine, king, and a nine. The precluded the possibility of a flush by delivering a rainbow. Both players had entered a state of serious deliberation, as both were hesitant to call against what may have been a pocket kings. Both players sighed deeply with relief as the pot was chopped, returning each player's stake.

The next largest pot reached $231,200 between Tom Dwan and Patrick Antonious. Antonious flopped a set of tens with an ace kicker, while Dwan's QS 9S pocket didn't hit a flush until the river. Dwan looked almost upset by the win. This was, however, Dwan's second six figure pot for the series so far, giving him winnings of almost a quarter of a million dollars.

Ivey's luck wavered through out the course of the evening, while Tom Dwan managed to rake in the pots consistently. Ivey won the last hand, however, ending the night with significantly more than he started with. By the end of the night, Dwan was up to $507,000, Ivey at $260,000, Lederer down to $134,000 from $150,000, Elezra to $129,000 from $100,000, and Sahamias with $86,000 after two $100,000 dollar buy ins. Play will resume tonight at 2 AM EST.
